Middle School Rowing Team

Our Athletes

  • The Middle School Team is for athletes 12 years old – 8th grade.
  • Athletes must have rowing experience! This can be a previous WBC Learn to Row camp, a previous WBC rowing program, or something similar at another club.
  • Athletes who want to work on their rowing technique both in sculling and sweep rowing.

What will you learn?

In our Middle School Programs, athletes will focus primarily on mastering technical skills. We emphasize proper form and technique to lay a strong foundation for future success in rowing. At WBC, we introduce young athletes to sculling, where each rower uses two oars. Sculling teaches athletes to develop body motion, boat feel, and individual responsibility. These skills are crucial as they lay the groundwork for sweeping (using one oar), which is common in high school and college rowing.

Our program prioritizes technique, with an additional focus on building aerobic fitness. We aim to prepare athletes to advance to competitive rowing, either within our own programs at WBC or at their high schools. This approach ensures that students not only develop their rowing skills but also gain a solid athletic foundation for future challenges.
