Spring Middle School Team

Who Should Join?

  • Athletes 12 years old – 8th grade.
  • Experienced athletes only.
  • Athletes need to have previous experience on a program, or in a Learn-To-Row class.
  • Athletes who want to focus on rowing technique and build their aerobic base fitness.

Program Goals and Expectations

  • Have fun learning and developing the fundamentals of the rowing stroke.
  • Learn how to scull (2 oars).
  • Learn how to sweep (given a large enough program).
  • Learn the basics so that athletes can become strong rowers in the future.
  • Attend as many practices as possible.

Meet the Coaches

Coach Jason’s passion for rowing started in 1990 at the University of Richmond, where he helped restart the 130-year-old rowing club, bringing it back to life and collegiate competition. As a German scholar in college, he also studied in Munster, Germany, where he learned the German sculling technique and became a member of the Akademische Ruderverbindung Westfalen, one of the oldest student rowing corporations in Germany.

Jason joined Whitemarsh Boat Club as a member in 2021 where he became involved in both club and masters competitive rowing. He then became a coach at Whitemarsh, instructing masters learn-to-row programs, youth technique development, and youth racing teams. In addition, he is a Level 2 instructor for USRowing Coach Development Program.

Coach Elizabeth began her rowing career at Whitemarsh Boat Club in 2015, where she competed on the Junior Racing Team from 2015-2019. Following his, she competed for Wesleyan University at the Division 3 collegiate level from 2019-2023. At Wesleyan, Elizabeth competed at NCAA Championships multiple times, including a second-place finish in the Varsity 8+ in 2023. She was named a Pocock All American athlete her senior year.

Elizabeth started coaching the Whitemarsh Middle School/Tech Team in the Fall of 2023 and anted to continue to do so this Spring!
